WASP, Worcester Area Schools Project
About Us - WASP History
The Worcester Area Schools Project (WASP) was initially set up in 2002 under the banner of Jesus in the City Ministries within Worcester. Its aim is to provide local schools and colleges with a Christian contact to support the spiritual and practical requirements of the students, staff and parents and help to build links between the school and the community. This has been done in many ways, including conducting lessons based on a Christian theme, leading collective worship in assemblies, running or resourcing voluntary clubs within school, supporting sports and social events and concerts, delivering practical workshops and many other things besides. Every school is different and WASP is adept at gearing its work with a particular school to those specific requirements.

In 2007 WASP became affiliated with Scripture Union, the internationally acclaimed Christian mission organisation. This gives us the opportunity to present professionally produced materials and resources for schools such as books, bibles, DVDs and interactive web pages as well as having the training resources at our disposal in order to equip our volunteers with skills and knowledge before embarking on any work with schools. These volunteers are also trained in Child Protection and undergo enhanced police check disclosures prior to any work they become involved in.

WASP currently employs one full-time Schools Worker, Ashley Vaughan, 25. (See Team and Directors Page). Ashley has experience of working in schools right across the country as a member of the touring schools team, Flipside, part of The Pais Project, a similar charity based in Manchester. He is married to Esther and has lived in Worcester since 2006. Together they lead the youth group at City Church, Worcester. Ashley joined WASP in September 2008 and in his spare time he enjoys music, reading, travelling and sport.
